TOPIC: “THE SHIELD OF FAITH”

TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:10-16

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Key Verse: “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Ephesians 6:16).

MESSAGE:

A shield is a defensive weapon, formerly held with the hand, and generally used in war for the protection of the body. It can also be referred to as anything that protects or defends.

The important function that shields perform especially on the battlefield, is the reason it is used to qualify the faith that every friend of Jesus is expected to put on. Such faith is strong and impenetrable.

If a soldier positions his shield correctly at the battle front, the enemies’ missiles (bullets) will not be able to penetrate. It will rather bounce back to the enemy. The following is what faith does for a Christian child:

(i) When doubts and fears come, the shield of faith will crush them so that they will not have an in-road to your heart.

(ii) When troubles come your way, faith will lift you above them, and you will overcome.

(iii) At the time of temptations and trials, the shield of faith will make you to triumph. Even if Satan himself comes with his lies, your confession of faith in God’s word will overthrow him and you will become victorious.

To develop your faith, you must spend quality time to pray, read God’s word and meditate on it. Shut your eyes and heart against negative things. You will triumph over all troubles in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer: Lord, please clothe me with the shield of faith as I walk through this troublous world.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
