DCLM Sincere Milk  3 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Steering

Topic: The Steering

Text: Proverbs 4:20-23

20My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Key Verse: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23

Message

Tom watched with surprise and wondered why the car went towards the direction at which his dad turned the car’s steering. When his dad turned the steering to the left, the car and everyone in the car moved to the left. The car also moved to the right when the steering was turned to the right.

A steering is a mechanical part of a vehicle that is used to control or change its direction. Your heart is like a car’s steering wheel. It determines the direction your life goes. Children must be careful of the things they allow to come into their hearts. Choose to feed your heart with good things like reading and meditating on God’s word, listening to and watching only godly songs and movies. You must stay away from things that corrupt like bad movies, bad friends and thoughts. God encourages us to keep our heart with all diligence because it determines the direction our life would go.

Out of a dirty heart comes dirty word, cursing, lying, stealing and bad behaviours. The child that allows dirty thoughts in his/her heart would end badly like Cain and Judas Iscariot unless the child repents. Remember to ask God to help you every day to reject bad thoughts and temptations when they come.

Prayer for today: Dear God, please help me reject bad thoughts and also keep my heart from sin.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
