DCLM Sincere Milk 20 July 2022 — Think on these Things

TOPIC: “THINK ON THESE THINGS”

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:6-9

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Key Verse: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

MESSAGE:
Fredrick liked to read bad books and watch cartoons that were scary. His thoughts were always on the pictures from the cartoons, and he became fearful. He started having bad dreams and was afraid of the dark and of sleeping alone in the room. He became a bully and a bad boy.

Caren, his younger sister, loved to read the Bible, Christian books, and always thought on the things she learnt from them. She became very pleasant and righteous in behaviour. Caren later became successful in life.

The type of books you read, things you watch and the friends you keep affect your mind, the things you think about and who you eventually become in life.

For you to be successful and continue to have victory over sin and Satan, you must not watch dirty things on the television, on your phone or on other people’s phones. Do not read bad books and don’t make bad boys and girls your best friend.

Think on the promises of God, on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Then your life will be enriched and fruitful.

Prayer: Dear God, please help me to think only on good things that will contribute positively to my Christian life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
