DCLM Higher Everyday 21 October 2026 — Think Right, Act Right

DCLM Higher Everyday  21 October 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Think Right, Act Right

Topic: Think Right, Act Right

Bible Reading: Proverbs 23:15-23 (KJV)

15My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

16Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

17Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

18For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

19Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

KEY VERSE: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee” (Proverbs 23:7).

Message

W.Clement Stone said, “The thoughts you think and the things you do now will determine your future destination.” Right thinking led the prodigal son back to his father, but wrong thinking got Amnon into trouble. The heart is the centre and source of all human actions. How we think and act, and what we become in life all come from the heart. The text for today emphasises the powerful connection between thinking and actions.

A wholesome heart is characterised by the fear of God, which leads to a guaranteed destiny here on earth and in eternity. By listening to wise counsels (buying the truth and never selling it) and diligently pursuing understanding, we lay the foundation for actions that honour God. Avoid being like many youths who are deceptive, living and acting without the wisdom of God. A heart fixed on God’s word produces wisdom that guides choices and promotes righteous living. You are instructed to “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). This will help you think right and act right.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Holy Father, guide all my thoughts and actions, in Jesus’ name.

CHALLENGE

Think and act right as an example to others.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
