DCLM Sincere Milk  21 October 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Lighter Than A Feather

Topic: Lighter Than A Feather

Bible Reading: Daniel 5:24-28 (KJV)

24Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

25And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

26This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

27TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

28PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

KEY VERSE: “TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” Daniel 5:27

Message

A balance is an instrument used to check how heavy a material A is. However, when God places a person in a balance, it is not to check his or her weight, but to check his or her worth. Like a feather, Belshazzar has very little or no “weight” or “worth” as far as respect for God, repentance, humility and righteousness were concerned. A life that does not honour God is reserved for destruction. And unless such a person repents urgently, he or she will soon face the judgment of God.

Belshazzar intended to, deliberately, mock and ridicule the God of Israel-the only Living God. As a king, he had enough cups made of gold or silver. What was his business with those cups reserved for the glory of God? Nobody can insult God and go scot free. Like Pharaoh and Herod, Belshazzar seemed to have been saying “who is the God of Israel that I should fear and respect him?” A life that has very little or no value before God is a life without fear or respect for God. Such a person is worthless and empty.

How heavy are you before God? He weighs your thoughts, your words and your actions. Repentance, Salvation, righteousness, respect for God, kindness to others make you ‘weighty’, acceptable and precious before God. Do you fear God? Do you honour Him? Do your thoughts and actions prove so? What of the lying, the pretence, the deceit, the cheating? Repent of your evil doings and God will forgive you.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Teach me to humble myself before You and honour You in all I say or do, O Lord

Acts 12:21-23.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
