TROUBLED BUT NOT CONSUMED
BIBLE TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 4:8-11
8We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
KEY VERSE: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair” (2 Corinthians 4:8).
Comfort was a fervent Christian and a chorister in children church. Her life of holiness and love for Jesus made people around her to hate and persecute her. Yet, she kept doing good. She faced severe persecution from students in her school. Several times, some mischievous students would hide her notebooks to deprive her of reading during examinations. To the greatest surprise of such students, Comfort would simply say, “God bless the people that stole my books and forgive them of their sin.” She was never disturbed by their wickedness.
This attribute made many of her school mates to give their lives to Jesus. For Comfort, she had the best result in her school in the final year examinations. She then proceeded to the university. Her endurance helped her to succeed. The trouble in the world is so much to make the heart of everyone fail, but the word of God offers encouragement for believers who are going through difficult situations of life.
As a Christian, whatever you are passing through in life should not discourage you, but rather draw you closer to God. Always remember the word of God in Psalm 46 verse 1, which says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please give me grace to endure hardship and follow You till the end.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
