Bible Reading: Galatians 5:22-26 (KJV)

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Message

Isaiah chapter 6 verse 3 says: “… Holy, holy, holy is the LORD I of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” God will not share His glory with anyone. When people try to take the place of God by acting as if they are in control of other people’s lives; that pride of man, is what the Bible refers to as vain glory. Vain glory comes from the flesh (nature of sin); its affection and its lusts. It causes us to provoke and envy one another. Vain glory is a sign that we are not living in or being guided by the Spirit of God. Vain glory is self-exaltation and it makes us proud, boastful and arrogant.

Desiring vain glory is attempting to put ourselves above others; or envying others when they are more privileged than us. The word of God is warning us that we should not try to act in any way that will make us feel or show to others that we are better than them or that we are jealous or envious of them. You desire vain glory whenever you want others to respect and honour you while you look down on them. You must ask the Lord to bless you with a humble heart and you must allow the Spirit of God to direct your thoughts, words and actions. Learn to give glory to God alone for whatever He has blessed you with above others and thank Him for what others have which you long for.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, bless me with a humble heart and keep me from pride and envy.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
