DCLM Higher Everyday 3 April 2024 — Walk In The Truth
Topic: Walk In The Truth
Text: 3 John 1:1-8
1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
Key Verse: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth” (3 John 1:4).
Message
Gaius had a clear love for people throughout his life, as well as a commitment to the truth and a true way of living. He fervently defended, preached, and believed that truth. To “adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour,” believers are expected to live moral lives that are in line with the truth they proclaim (Titus 2:10). The passage today encourages Christians to “walk in the truth.” This entails living a life that is compatible with Jesus’ teachings and acting in a truthful and honest manner. The passage also emphasizes the need of supporting and accommodating fellow Christians who are proclaiming the truth.
In today’s society, walking in the truth can entail denouncing wrongdoing and defending what is just, even if it goes against the wish of the majority. It can also mean choosing to live a life of integrity and honesty, even when it may be challenging, and being honest in our relationships and dealings with others. Ultimately, walking in the truth is about following Jesus’ example and attempting to live a life that honours God.
Quote: Live a life that honours God
Challenge: Learn from, look and listen to, and love like Jesus.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, please help me to walk in the Truth. Amen dwell in me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
