DCLM Sincere Milk 2 September 2022 — Do not follow bad example

DCLM Sincere Milk 2 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Do not follow bad example

TOPIC: DO NOT FOLLOW BAD EXAMPLE

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-6

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Key Verse: “Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted” (1 Corinthians 10:6).

The children of Israel were God’s special people chosen to serve Him in truth and spirit. Having delivered them from slavery in Egypt, He provided for them all that they needed to keep them fit and safe all through their journey to the promised land.

What God did for Israel was a unique provision that they never dreamt of. He fed them with real and actual food directly supplied from heaven daily for forty years. This food was known as Manna.

He also supplied them spiritual water from the rock. This great Rock symbolize Jesus Christ. They were miraculously protected throughout their journey with a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. These provisions were taken away only when they set their feet on the promised land.

With all these great and wonderful provisions, Israel did not show gratitude by obeying God. They manifested unbelief and rebelled against God. This account of God’s dealing with Israel was recorded for us to learn important lessons.

We should understand that a child that was once saved can become a castaway if he follows their example of unbelief. If you desire God’s continuous blessings, you must surrender your life to Jesus and commit your life to serve Him in holiness and righteousness. Learn from the example of Israel and run away from sin.

Prayer: Lord, guide and lead me in my Christian journey, so I will not be a castaway.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
