TOPIC: WORKS TRIED BY FIRE

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 3:10-14

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

MEMORY VERSE: “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is” (1 CORINTHIANS 3:13).

MESSAGE:

From ancient time, fire has been a major medium for the separation of precious gems from unprofitable dross. Gold’s quality is revealed after passing the raw material through the furnace.

Coal is a product of wood metamorphism (intense heat transformation) at the depth of the earth. The story is told of a poor farmer of a rocky land who later discovered that certain stones were diamonds by their radiant colour in the fire.

The labour of every pastor, church member or youth shall be weighed in the balances of the gospel truth. Everyone may project zeal, but the Lord’s search light will prove the worth of our works.

Today’s text reveals that no one can hide his quality on assessment in the fire at Christ’s coming. Our preaching, singing and other church services will be scored on the basis of our genuine salvation from sin, and wholehearted submission to God’s will.

Some will not be qualified to enter heaven. Others will have no acceptable service report to present for rewards because their works were burnt, but the righteous shall shine.

QUOTE: No one can hide his quality.

CHALLENGE: Will your work endure the fire test?

PRAYER: Lord, refine me now by Your word of truth.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
