DCLM Higher Everyday  7 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Lesson On Sacrificial Giving

Topic: Lesson On Sacrificial Giving

Bible Reading: Mark 12:41-44 (KJV)

41And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

MEMORY VERSE: “And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury” (Mark12:43).

Message

Our Bible text of today provides profound lessons on sacrificial giving, faith, and God’s perspective on giving. In God’s kingdom, the value of a gift or offering is determined by the state of our hearts and not by the size of the gift.  The widow’s act is an encouragement to those who may have only little to offer. In God’s eyes, your little gift or service may be of more value than offerings by the rich. The poor widow was selfless. She put her needs aside and did God’s will first. However, we should not think that there are no wealthy brethren who give cheerfully and sacrificially.

Robert G. Le Tourneau was a devout Christian and a prominent manufacturer of heavy earth moving equipment in USA. His company built 70% of such machineries used by the allies during the Second World War. Instead of giving 10% of his enormous income to God, he gave 90%. Christendom is blessed with sacrificial givers. Always give your best to the Master. Let us embrace the attitude of sacrificial giving that Jesus espoused.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Help me oh God, to lay all on the altar.

CHALLENGE

What type of gift do you give to God?

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
