TOPIC: Genuine Burden (DCLM Daily Manna 1 July 2026)

KEY VERSE: Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved – Romans 10:1

TEXT: Romans 10:1-4 (KJV)

1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Augustine of Hippo, one of Christianity’s most influential theologians, lived a wild and dissolute life in his youth. He embraced Manichaeism, a dualistic religion, and lived a life far from God. His mother, Monica, was a devout Christian. For over seventeen years, she unceasingly prayed for his salvation. She followed him, wept over him, and sought out bishops and spiritual leaders to intercede. Wary of her persistence, one bishop finally told her, “Go, your son will be saved; the son of so many tears cannot perish.” Monica’s burden for her son was so profound that it drove her to relentless prayer and tears. She didn’t give up, even when Augustine seemed furthest from God. Her burden for his salvation ultimately led to his dramatic conversion, a testament to the power of a heart burdened in prayer.

Before the 4th century, when the prayer and burden of Augustine’s mother eventually led to his conversion, Paul the apostle had shown us what it means to demonstrate that heartfelt desire and burden for the salvation of our people. The fervour was unmistakable, his zeal knew no bounds, and his passion was infectious. Israel’s lack of understanding led them to establish their own standards of righteousness and remain in darkness. Israel was doubtlessly religious but ignorant of God’s provision for salvation. Yet, Paul the apostle never gave up on them. Today, many still demonstrate zeal for God without true knowledge, which leads to a futile pursuit of righteousness.

As believers, our passion should align with Paul’s—praying fervently and working tirelessly to save those still wallowing in self-righteousness. We must share the gospel with love, guiding seekers, including our relatives and fellow citizens, away from the path of destruction. We must lovingly point them to Christ, the Saviour of the world. Do not write them off. The provision of Christ on the cross at Calvary is also available for their redemption today. Supplicate, intercede, and go after them with genuine concern and love; the Lord will have mercy on them. The time to start is now.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
