DCLM Higher Everyday 2 July 2026 — Put Off These Things
Topic: Put Off These Things
Bible Reading: Colossians 3:5-10 (KJV)
5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
KEY VERSE: But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth” (Colossians 3:8).
Message
It’s easy to get caught up in the affairs of this world. The social media, peer pressure, and personal desires, can cause us to make choices that do not align with God’s will. But God calls us to something greater – to live a life that reflects His holiness and love. You can do this by “putting off” your old sinful ways.
Our text tells us to “put off” certain behaviours that are part of our old self, that is our sinful nature, and to put on the new self, which is created in Christ’s image. It calls us to “put off” things like anger, lying, and impurity. Why? Because they hinder one from living the new life in Christ. You can “put off” these things by consecrating your life to Christ, and renewing your mind with the word of God (Romans 12:1). Also, allow the principles of the new life to take the centre stage of your life. As you grow in your faith and walk with Christ, the clamour of the flesh will be silenced. You can live victoriously with faith in Christ Jesus.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Oh God! Help me to put on the new life in Jesus’ name.
CHALLENGE
Put off the old life of sin and put on Christ!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
