DCLM Higher Everyday 28 October 2026 — The Overcomers Are Crowned
Topic: The Overcomers Are Crowned
Bible Reading: James 1:12-16 (KJV)
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
KEY VERSE: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).
Message
Daniel was the best student in his school. But one day, during an important exam, his friends mounted pressure on him to cheat. “No one will know,” they said. He felt tempted, but he remembered God’s command to be honest. He refused to cheat, even though it meant scoring lower. Later, the school discovered the cheats and disqualified them, but Daniel was honoured for his integrity. To avoid the temptation to cheat during exams, prepare adequately by studying hard, covering your syllabus, taking thorough notes, praying and avoiding procrastination.
Like Daniel, every Christian is faced with temptations. The devil tries to make sin look attractive, but the Bible warns that sin leads to death (James 1:15). When we resist temptation and stand firm in faith, God promises us the crown of life. This is for those who endure trials and remain faithful to Christ. Earthly rewards fade, but God’s crown lasts forever. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).
Oh God, help me to overcome every temptation, in Jesus’ name.
Stand strong when tempted.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
