DCLM Higher Everyday 19 December 2022 — Do More

DCLM Higher Everyday 19 December 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Do More

TOPIC: DO MORE

TEXT: 2 PETER 1:3-11

3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

MEMORY VERSE: “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity” (2 PETER 1:5-7).

MESSAGE:

Rafael Parera is a Spanish professional tennis player currently ranked world No. 2 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals as at the time of this write-up.

According to a source, as a top ranking player, he never leaves anything to chance. He plays as if he is just a qualifier. In fact, he gets more passionate with every tournament instead of feeling like he deserves to win or is entitled to win. The intensity he plays with every point is almost unmatched. He never relents.

For believers, there is no resting point in this world because believers are pilgrims on a journey. According to Albert Einstein, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

There is no spiritual level an individual can attain and feel that there is nothing else to acquire. The moment anyone thinks he has arrived, everything starts to crumble.

When someone is not making progress, there will be retrogression. We can add more faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, etc., to our lives to remain God’s favourites.

QUOTE: There is no resting point in this world.

CHALLENGE: Christian virtues give spiritual strength and stability.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to continue to grow in grace.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
