TOPIC: MATTHIAS’ MATTER

TEXT: ACTS 1:20-26

20For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

📖 MEMORY VERSE: “And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles” (ACTS 1:26).

MESSAGE:

Matthias was nominated alongside with Barsabas to fill the vacancy created by the exit of Judas Iscariot who committed suicide. Appointment to spiritual duties in the church is not by popular vote but by divine choice. There was no record of disagreement or revolt from Barsabas when Mathias was chosen.

When the Church leaders have prayed and appointments are made in the church, we should agree with the choice and cooperate with such appointed leaders. This is because God directs the affairs of the Church through His anointed servants.

When two or more people are considered for a post, the person chosen should see the outcome as a call to duty to serve with humility. Other participators should avoid resentment or withdrawal from fellowship or other assigned duties.

Everyone should still be occupied and serve the Lord at whatever level they have the opportunity to work for the Lord. The ultimate is not the title, position or privilege that we have but faithfulness in our God-given duties.

QUOTE: Serve with humility.

CHALLENGE: Allow God to choose His workmen.

PRAYER: Help me Lord, to serve You faithfully.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
