DCLM Higher Everyday 9 December 2023 — Elijah’s Kind Of Exploits
Topic: Elijah’s Kind Of Exploits
Text: James 5:16-18
16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
18And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Key Verse: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months” (James 5:17).
Message
If you think our days are dark and evil, Elijah lived in a darker and more evil day. The evil Queen Jezebel had polluted the land with her wickedness, whoredom and witchcraft. Gross darkness covered the land as water covers the sea. Yet, out of obscurity, Elijah came on stage and had a most remarkable ministry. He was extraordinary in his ministry of uncompromising stand for God, bold declaration of the word, with miracles, signs and wonders by God’s power, and faith and faithful commitment to promoting the glory of God. Above all, he was remarkable in his ministry of prayer. He prayed and locked the heavens. He prayed, and rain fell down. He prayed, and fire came down. He prayed, and men fell down. He prayed, and the worship of Baal went down.
According to Leonard Ravenhill, instead of asking, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” we should be asking, “Where are the Elijahs of God?” Where are the boys and girls who will distinguish themselves to confront the mountain of challenges bedeviling the world in our days? We need Elijah’s kind of exploits today.
Quote: He prayed, and the rain fell down
Challenge: Where are the Elijahs of God?
Prayer for today: Lord, send another Elijah to bring the fire down.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
