TOPIC: God Owns The Praise (DCLM Daily Manna 4 February 2022)

TEXT: Nehemiah 7:5,6 (KJV)

5 And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,

6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

KEY VERSE: “And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein.” – (Nehemiah 7:5)

MESSAGE:

It is common for men to want the recognition and praise for their accomplishments. They raise monuments and cause books documenting their achievements to be published, all in a bid to immortalise their deeds. While nothing is actually wrong in being acknowledged for a feat accomplished, it is important not to forget that God is the Source of every knowledge and so deserves unreserved credits for all human accomplishments.

Nehemiah always recognised this. He never failed to acknowledge and give credit to God for every idea and inspiration he received in the course of doing His work. In our text, he once again acknowledges God as the Giver of the idea to take the records of the returnee Jews in a bid to ensure that Jerusalem is repopulated by Jews alone.

The opposite is the case today. Most people make a boast of their achievements and attainments without acknowledging God. They speak as though their success is due to their personal ingenuity and ability. Their end is often nothing to write home about.

We must realise that all we are, have and are able to do in life are all due to God. We must acknowledge and give Him the credit all the time. He is the One who gives us inspiration, ideas, resources, abilities and wisdom for every accomplishment. Like Nehemiah, let us cultivate the habit of acknowledging God in everything we do. He alone is our Source and deserves all the praise.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Raise your monument of praise to God alone.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
