DCLM Sincere Milk  12 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — He Loves His Own

Topic: He Loves His Own

Text — John 13:1-5

1Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

2And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;

3Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

4He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.

5After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

Key Verse: “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” John 13:1

Message

Jesus’ special love is directed towards His own friends. There is love for the whole world that seek to bring humankind to repentance and salvation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Another level of love begins at the very moment we surrender our lives to serve Jesus. We become His own; left in the world to show His glory and to do His service. Our Bible passage describes that love as “the love for His own”. It is the love that preserves us, promotes us, protects us, provides for us and prepares us to live with Jesus in Heaven.

It is that love that delivers us from all the wiles of Satan and comforts us when we suffer for Jesus’ sake. This love is unfailing and will keep us to the end. You are His own if you have turned away from your sins and live righteously every day. You are His own if you do whatever He commands you. It is a privilege to belong to the Saviour. His love towards you, His beloved, will never fail.

Prayer for today: Lord, I thank you for your love for me.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
