DCLM Sincere Milk 24 November 2022 — Humble yourself and repent

DCLM Sincere Milk 24 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Humble yourself and repent

TOPIC: HUMBLE YOURSELF AND REPENT

BIBLE TEXT: 1 KINGS 21:27-29

27And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

28And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

29Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.

KEY VERSE: “Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house” (1 Kings 21:29).

MESSAGE

Ahab, the king of Israel, was a wicked man who married a wicked woman called Jezebel. Both of them persecuted men of God, particularly Elijah, and did very terrible things. Their evil deeds made God to bring His judgment upon them. In response to this planned judgment of God, Ahab humbled himself and repented, and God lifted the planned judgment off his head.

No matter how terrible a sinner is, once he humbles himself and comes to God in repentance, he receives forgiveness and pardon. The Bible says, *”Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:7).

God is merciful and does not want any sinner to die and go to hell fire. He made the provision for man’s redemption from sin through Jesus Christ. The sinner’s role is to repent from all sins and accept Jesus as his/her personal Saviour and Lord.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to always humble myself so that I can enjoy Your mercies.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
