DCLM Sincere Milk 6 September 2023 — Light

DCLM Sincere Milk  6 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Light

Topic: Light

Text: Matthew 5: 14- 16

14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Key Verse: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14

Message

Light is very important to life. In fact, it was the first item God spoke into existence when He created the heaven and the earth. Light helps people see things clearly, and avoid accidents. Just as light reveals the beauty of things around us, it also exposes evil that should be avoided. The various commonly known sources of light include the sun, fire and electricity. The fireflies too produce light. They seem to be the only animals that naturally produce and shine light on their own. As little as the firefly is, it is still very attractive to all in the twilight.

Jesus says that His friends are “the light of the world”. Just like the firefly, we will shine the light of godly character in this world of ungodliness. We are to be the light of God to this dark world. How? We are to let our behaviour and preaching point the way to God, to warn them of the dangers ahead, and show them the love of God. Live a holy life everyday. Let your light shine.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to allow my light to shine and show others the way to you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
