DCLM Higher Everyday 24 November 2022 — Mary’s Meditation

DCLM Higher Everyday 24 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Mary’s Meditation

TOPIC: MARY’S MEDITATION

BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 2:15-21

15And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

21And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

MEMORY VERSE: “But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart” (LUKE 2:19).

MESSAGE:

A casual listener or reader does not benefit much from what is said. There is need to meditate on or ponder over things in our hearts. The Christian minister, H. G. Salter said, “Meditation produces warm affections, zealous resolutions, and holy actions; and therefore, if you desire to profit by hearing the word, meditate.”

Mary had enough reasons to meditate. She was a young woman who had got a strange message that she was “highly favoured” amongst women to give birth supernaturally to the Saviour, Emmanuel. Then she conceived, Jesus was born, and then the visit of the shepherds who had been told by an angel of Christ’s birth. It was all strange and extraordinary to Mary. Like a drama, her life’s scenes were opening and changing fast. This called for meditation, and God was present to guide.

As a Christian youth, cultivate the habit of meditating on the Word of God. Whatever you hear from God’s servants, ponder over it. Whatever you read, be it religious or secular books, meditate on them to profit well from them.

QUOTE: Cultivate the habit of meditating on the Word.

CHALLENGE: Do not be a casual listener.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to profit from your Word.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
