DCLM Higher Everyday 12 November 2022 — Our most important duty

DCLM Higher Everyday 12 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Our most important duty

TOPIC: OUR MOST IMPORTANT DUTY
TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 12:9-14

9And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

10The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

11The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

12And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

MEMORY VERSE: “And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (ECCLESIASTES 12:12, 13).
MESSAGE
Today’s Bible text simplifies for us the whole or essential duty of man on earth. It is to fear God and keep His commandments. The reverential fear of God drives us to keep His commandments, and they are not grievious.
We are to love God and worship Him only. Moreover, we are to love our neighbours as ourselves. “I’d rather be biblically correct than politically correct,” says Mark Batterson. This quote underscores the supremacy of our relationship with God, over and above every other relationship with people or things of this life.
Deluded by the seeming reality presented by socialization processes experienced from birth, most humans get engrossed in seeking after material possessions and carnal pleasures until they die – missing the Saviour eternally.
But the primary reason for our creation is to manifest the glory of God. And this is only possible when we repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Saviour. Youths who are engaged in magical arts, false religions and criminal activities should repent because they are opposed to God.
QUOTE: Manifest God’s glory.
CHALLENGE: Prioritize your relationship with God above all else.
PRAYER: I need grace, O God, to do your will always, in Jesus’ name.
GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
