Topic: Prescription For Peace

Text: 1 Peter 3:8-11

8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

Key Verse: “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace and ensue it” (1 Peter 3:10, 11).

Message

It was Harold Macmillan, former British Prime Minister who said, “Jaw, jaw is better than war, war.” He meant that it is better to talk things over than to fight.  History also records wars that have been started because of wrong speaking. A classic case is narrated in Judges 12:4, “Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.” So, speaking the right words is even more crucial than just speaking.

The heart of the natural man is filled with anger, hatred, bitterness, and jealousy. The verdict of heaven is, “There is no peace for the wicked.” The words that proceed from him or her are peace-shattering, such that conflict persists, instead of harmony. Sin makes one a peace-breaker but Jesus makes one a peacemaker. He is the Prince of Peace; when He comes into any willing heart, His peace enters in and then words of peace flow out of the mouth.

Quote: Jesus makes one a peacemaker

Challenge: Silence is golden when the troublemaker is around.

Prayer for today: Dear Lord, reign in me with your peace. Amen.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
