DCLM Sincere Milk  27 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Right Response

Topic: Right Response

Text: James 4:1-3

1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Key Verse: “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” James 4:3

Message

Billions of people pray every day and God hears our prayers. We pray for things like – good health, success, provisions, favour and many more. Often times, everything turns out all right. But there are times that we do not receive answers, why? Apostle James in our Bible passage said one reason God doesn’t answer every prayer is because we ask for the wrong reasons and sometimes out of selfishness!

God refuses to answer the prayers of those who are selfish, over-ambitious, love pleasure and desire honour, power or riches. One should understand that God will not listen to our prayers if we have hearts filled with selfish desires. The Bible tells us that God hears only the prayers of the righteous, of those who call upon Him in truth, of the genuinely repentant and humble and of those who ask according to His will. If your prayers have not been receiving the right response, you must check up on your motives and methods. Always pray in faith, with a humble spirit and according to God’s will. In this way, you will receive the right response to your prayers.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
