DCLM Higher Everyday 27 May 2023 — Time For Soberness And Prayer

DCLM Higher Everyday 27 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Time For Soberness And Prayer

Topic: Time For Soberness And Prayer

Text:  1 Peter 4:7-11

7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

9Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

10As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Key Verse: “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer” (1 Peter 4:7).

Message

Soberness is the state of being serious and calm, while prayer is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks to God. The world today is characterized by a lot of anti-God activities which include drunkenness, fighting, immoral acts, occultism, hatred, senseless killings, stealing etc. Our text encourages us to be sober and to demonstrate the nature of God, which is love. Through love, we care for one another. Before you can have the love of God, you have to be born of God. It is after this, that you can have the passion for prayer and intercession for your family, nation and all people in general.

Beloved, do you know why it is time for soberness and prayers? Our text says that the end of all things is at hand! The signs of the end prophesied by our Saviour in Matthew 24:4-14, are happening right before our eyes. If you are already a child of God, pray and become fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.

Quote: It is time for soberness and prayers

Challenge: Avoid the rat race of the ungodly.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, help me to use my resources to help the helpless.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
