DCLM Sincere Milk  4 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Social Wellbeing

Topic: Social Wellbeing

Text: Ecclesiastes 4:8-10

8There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.

9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

10For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.

Key Verse: “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” Ecclesiastes 4:9

Message

Human beings are social beings, no wonder God quickly created Eve for Adam to fill the vacuum the animals he interacted with could not fill because they were not his kind. Adam appreciated what God did and accepted Eve, knowing fully well that to go far in life, one must never travel alone. Our text pronounce woe on him that is alone because there is no help available to such at the time of need. We all need each other and no one can exist as an island without interacting with others.

God in His wisdom, put children within the family so that socially they can enjoy fellowship with other members. We, as part of the family and the society at large, must ensure social wellbeing by doing the following:

  • Maintain good relationship with every member of your family, friends and neighbours.
  • Greet people whenever you meet them.
  • Show courtesy and respect to all others especially older members of the society.
  • Give a smile to the world every day.
  • Get rid of anger and live a life of forgiveness.
  • Be of help to someone everyday
Remember, the more we are together, the happier we shall be.

Prayer for today: Dear Lord, help me to promote social well-being wherever I find myself.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
