DCLM Sincere Milk 5 June 2023 — The Cheerful Giver

DCLM Sincere Milk  5 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Cheerful Giver

Topic: The Cheerful Giver

Text:  2 Corinthians 9:6-11

6But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

7Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

8And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

9(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

10Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

11Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

Key Verse: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver” 2 Corinthians 9:7

Message

Richard observed that John, one of his classmates was always alone during lunch-time without money or food. One day, he approached him to find out why. John opened up to him that his father had lost his job and the money from his mother’s petty trading was barely enough to cater for the family’s needs. That day, Richard shared his meal with him. On getting home, Richard told his mom who showed love and care by giving extra food pack for John throughout the term.

This act of generosity and giving made John to surrender his life to Jesus. His parents too were touched by this kindness that in time, they also became converted.

With fervent prayers, things became better as John’s dad got a better paying job than the one he lost. God desires that we give to the needy around us and be cheerful while doing so. God honours and rewards cheerful giving. You must cultivate the attitude of helping others as the need arises.

Prayer for today: Lord, I ask for a heart that truly loves, cares and is concerned about the needs of the people around me.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
