5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

KEY VERSE: “Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” Matthew 4:7

Message

Satan does not give up easily in the temptations he brings in the way of God’s children. Jesus defeated him with the written word in the first temptation, but he did not stop there. Satan knows that Jesus is the Son of the most high God Who has power to defeat him yet he continued with the temptations. As God, Who came in the form of man, Jesus Christ did not seek to be praised for being powerful or possessing the ability to keep Himself safe from harm. He knew that Satan wanted Him to do what he said but Jesus is wiser and more knowledgeable than Satan. He refused to fall for the craftiness of the devil.

As a friend of Jesus, the word of God must dwell richly in your heart. You need it all the time to help you overcome Satan. If Satan was not afraid to tempt Jesus and challenge His faith in God, he can tempt any believer. Satan knows the scriptures but often misapplies them. He uses them to counter God and deceive friends of Jesus who are not strong in the Lord or who do not understand God’s word very well. Always ask the Holy Spirit to interpret the word of God to you as you read and meditate on it. Without understanding, you cannot apply it correctly.

Jesus knew the word, in fact, He is the Word so He was not deceived by Satan. Fill your heart with the word of God. Fill your spirit with the boldness of God and let the power of God’s word in your life give you victory over every temptation of Satan. Only true friends of Jesus can have true victory. Become one today if you have not yet surrendered your life to Him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
