Topic: Treasure In Earthen Vessels
Text: 2 Corinthians 4: 5-7
6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Key Verse: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).
Message
Collins’s dictionary defines earthen vessels as an object made of clay that is baked so that it becomes hard. However, being earthen and not iron, it is prone to perishing. In the medieval days treasures were kept in earthen vessels for safety. As believers, we are treasures in earthen vessels, meaning our bodies. Note the treasure is more precious than the vessels and must be used as God wills.
God did not place us on this earth just to go to school, have a good job, drive nice cars, get married, and have children. All these things are good but the day we came into this world, God had in mind an assignment or role for every one of us to fulfill.
The Almighty God, our Creator, has interest in your life and wants to use you for His glory. To be a treasure in earthen vessel as a youth you must first surrender your life to Jesus completely and allow the Spirit of God to dwell in you and use your gifts to His glory.
Quote: Use your gifts to His glory
Challenge: The treasure is important.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to prioritize the treasure in me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
