DCLM Higher Everyday 20 May 2026 — Unpleasant Surprises

DCLM Higher Everyday  20 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Unpleasant Surprises

Topic: Unpleasant Surprises

Bible Reading: Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV)

21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

KEY VERSE: “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23).

Message

Face detection apps such as are used on smart phones, homes, office doors, and many more devices, enhance security access. Where a face is not recognised by those devices, access is denied. A youth who is not registered on Heaven’s database through salvation experience cannot gain access to its gates. Jesus taught that not everyone who claims to be a Christian will enter heaven (Matthew 7:21-23). Hence, William F. Hill declares, “I submit to you, that to wait until the day of resurrection to find out whether or not we are saved, is a very risky business at the least.”

Some people may be surprised to find that certain supposed holy individuals they expected to see in heaven are not there. Remember, earthly successes do not qualify one for heaven. Heaven is a place of perfect justice, and some people may be surprised to see how God deals with sin on the day of the final judgment (Revelation 20:11-15). This would be an unpleasant surprise for those who “work iniquity” and do not take God’s justice seriously on earth.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Help me to be true to You, Lord.

CHALLENGE

You will reap what you sow.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
