DCLM Sincere Milk 22 February 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — You are different
TOPIC: YOU ARE DIFFERENT
TEXT: 1 Peter 2:9-12
9. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10. Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12. Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
KEY VERSE: “Key Verse:But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”
MESSAGE
Claire was chosen with four other pupils to represent her school in a quiz competition. When they got to the event venue, they met pupils from other schools also. Many of the pupils were chattering loudly and were all over the place. They were all excited at the beautiful things around them, not remembering that they were supposed to comport themselves (behave well) as ambassadors of their schools. Claire, a friend of Jesus, sat quietly, observing things going on and also admiring the beauty of the environment. These pupils did not realise that they were being watched by the Head of school whose office was close to where they sat.
Suddenly, they heard a voice call out to them to minimize their noise making, the woman also moved closer and went straight to where Claire sat and started asking her questions. She had noticed that Claire’s behaviour was different from the others – she brought honour to the name of Christ. Eventually, she was presented with a gift for her good behaviour. As a friend of Jesus, you are different from the children of the world. Let your character portray christ-likeness everywhere you go. You belong to a chosen generation and a royal priesthood.
Prayer: Father, please help me to be a good ambassador of Christ everywhere I go._
Further Reading:“`Revelation 5:10
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
