DCLM Sincere Milk 25 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Dog and the Sow
Topic: The Dog and the Sow
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 2:20-22 (KJV)
20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
22But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
KEY VERSE: “But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” 2 Peter 2:22
Message
The dog is said to be the most popular pet on earth. It is known as human’s best friend. And the sow or a female pig provides the most widely eaten meat in the world. 36 percent of the world’s population is said to enjoy eating pork – pig flesh. But there is a habit in each of them that everyone dislikes greatly. Everyone hates or feels sick to see the dog eat back its vomit, and a washed sow wallowing again in the mire or deep mud.
There is a way that some people resemble dogs and sows. That is, in their habit of frequently returning to do what is wrong and practice sinful behaviour they have once forsaken. How often do you go back, like a dog, to the sins you have repented of? How often, like a sow, do you return to soil yourself again with sin like lying, cheating and stealing after you have been washed clean by the blood of Jesus at your moment of repentance? You are not a dog, neither are you a sow.
Once forgiven, Jesus wants you never to return to your bad ways. And once cleansed, you are not expected to go back to the mire or uncleanliness of sinful habits. Remain cleansed and free from all sins whether you are at home, at school or everywhere you find yourself. That is what the Saviour expects from you. Keep yourself pure always!
Lord, help me never to go back to my past sinful behaviour.

Proverbs 26:10,11
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
