DCLM Sincere Milk  10 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Undeserved Mercy

Topic: Undeserved Mercy

Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 9:1-8 (KJV)

1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

2And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.

3And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.

4And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.

5Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.

6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

7And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

8And he bowed himself, and said, Whatis thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

KEY VERSE: And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1

Message

Mephibosheth was king Saul’s grandson and the only surviving son of Jonathan, David’s best friend. Due to a childhood accident, he became lame on both his feet and could barely fend for himself. However, David, moved by his bowel of mercy and in a bid to show kindness to the house of Saul (his enemy) for Jonathan’s sake sought out Mephibosheth, restored his inheritance and made him qualified to dine at the king’s table.

This clearly shows that God cares for the vulnerable or those who feel left out, everyone, especially the needy or those forgotten. He has the power to redeem and restore whatever might have been lost. He can transform and uplift those in need and make them forget every shameful state or past troubles.

Like Mephibosheth, have you lost a close relative, friend, house, finances, joy, peace, self-esteem or sense of belonging? Pray that God will open a book of remembrance concerning you like he did for Mephibosheth. Cry out to the God of the whole Universe. He is plenteous in mercy and full of compassion. He is able to raise you up and make you dine with kings.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, please open a book of remembrance for me and restore all that I might have lost.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
